Whenever you look for oligonucleotides, you often notice their pricing structure is based on a “scale” or “starting scale” in “nmol” quantity. This can be quite misleading as this actually refers to the quantity of “starting material” required to synthesize the oligo and gives you no idea about the final yield of oligo you will be receiving.
(This is like going to a bakery where they ask you to pay for your cake based on the quantity of flower, sugar, etc. they will use, and not the final size of the cake).
In addition, based on the oligo facility and methodology(s) used there, the final yield can vary based on the starting material, with some facilities synthesizing higher yields, while others synthesize lower yields, or even mixed yields. In many cases, the final yields are usually not standardized and therefore inconsistent.
We at Bio Basic have modified our oligo synthesis process to allow a simpler and more consistent approach to this pricing structure and final yield deliverable. Because of this we guarantee the total yield of each oligonucleotide as a FIXED final yield in OD (Optical Density) units.
